West Woodside is situated in the heart of Royal Deeside on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park with Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve , Loch Daven, Kinnord and the Burn-O-Vat waterfall less than 3 miles from the cottage.
The nearby villages of Ballater and Aboyne offer good shopping and golf,while Aberdeen 35 miles away is an attractive cosmopolitan city, being the energy capital of Europe.
Royal Deeside is also an excellent base for exploring the many distilleries, standing stones and castles in the area, with the Royal Lochnagar distillery only 15 miles away on the doorstep of Crathie Church and Balmoral Castle, the Queen's highland retreat . There are regular Highland Games in this area.
For the rambler Royal Deeside offers endless opportunities for walking & biking. The possibilities range from gentle routes to the ascent of Morven, which rises to 871 metres and can be seen from the Cottage
